Final Project

A.  Historical Data

I am a white Anglo male, 36 year old, I am married to Susan, and we have two children Ben who is 12 and Sarah who is 10.  We live in Livonia Michigan.  I work as a project manger for Dart.  I design styrofoam cups for the fast food industry. 

I came to Christ as a result of campus ministry at Michigan State University.  I am the only member of my nuclear family to have accepted Christ as personal Savior.  My leadership profile is Inspirational pattern.  I have spiritual gifts of Exhortation, service and hospitality.  I am perceived as an empowering leader in the church.  My NCD survey revealed I need to develop in the area of passionate spirituality.  I attend the Riverside Park Church of God in Livonia, Michigan.

Ministry Context

My ministry context is the local church and the Livonia community.  Riverside Park Church of God in 87 years old.  Sunday morning average attendance is 80.  We are predominantly white congregation.  Thirty percent of the adult population of Riverside Park Church of God is male.  There mean age is 46 and they have been attending the church for at least fifteen years. 

 The city of Livonia has a population of 180,000.  It is a suburb of the greater Detroit area.  Livonia is growing multi-cultural.  The average age of the adult male in Livonia is 38, 2 in 5 will be Anglo, 2 in 5 African American, and 1 in 10 Hispanic, and 1 in 10 Asian.  Fifty percent of those male are divorced.

 Three-Year Strategy (Vision)

 It is my vision to start a men’s ministry that will help men be more effective fathers.  I envision this ministry to be an evangelistic tool for Riverside Park Church of God.  In three years with God’s help we will a fully function men’s group consisting of fifty men being discipled in six holistic small groups.

 

Twelve-Month Ministry Plan

 Month One:

Gain approval from the pastor.  I plan to present this ministry plan to my pastor in effort to gain his/her approval.

Month Two: 

Recruit three other men to be in the first holistic small group.  We will use a G-12 approach to developing the groups.  I will prepare and present to each man a design for the groups.

Month Three:

Begin holistic small group meetings

Month Six:

Holistic Small group leaders (G-12) attend a cell church conference

Month Seven – Eleven:

Host outreach events for men

Month Twelve:

Original holistic small group divides into four new holistic small groups

B.  Historical Data of the Church

Riverside Park Church of God in 87 years old.  Sunday morning average attendance is 80.  The congregation is predominantly Anglo.  The profile of the worshippers ho attends the church is the following: a) Median age is 55 b) Household income is $85,000 c) Eighty five percent of the worshippers are married or apart of a nuclear family d) Have attended the church for fifteen year or more.   There is off street parking for 75 cars.  The church owns a parsonage adjacent to the church.  The church is located on 1. 5 acres.

The average tenure of the pastor over the history of the church is five years.  In the early fifties the congregation was much larger but went through a split over the theological issue of the proper use of tongues.  Two successive pastors following the split left suddenly after a rather short pastoral tenure.

Ministry Context of the Church

Three-Year Strategy (Vision)

It is the vision of the Riverside Park Church of God to be a growing multi-cultural congregation penetrating its community for Christ.  The congregation is asking God to use them to daughter additional congregations in the Livonia area.

Twelve-Month Ministry Plan

Month One:

Begin successive vision forums in the congregation and community to discern the needs of the congregation and the community.

Month Two:

Interview two other senior pastors of congregations who have transitioned to multi-cultural congregations

Month Three: 

Present a forum reports and interview reports to major leadership teams of the church

Month Four:

Present findings of the Natural Church Development survey to the leadership team.  Present the implications for visioning and strategy for the church.

Month Five: 

Host a daylong strategy session to build out vision.  Incorporate the findings from the forums, and Natural Survey results.  Incorporate the biotic principles in the planning process

Month Seven – Ten

Evaluate present ministries in light of the new strategy.  Eliminate those ministries that don’t support the vision. 

Month Twelve

Evaluate progress and write new twelve month plan based on strategy and vision.
